What we collect, why, and the choices you have. Last updated August 2026.
Faraway Postcards is a small, independent publication. This policy explains, in plain terms, what happens when you visit.
We don't ask you to create an account or hand over personal details to read this site. Like most websites, we do collect some information automatically:
We use Google Analytics (gtag.js) to understand, in aggregate, how readers find and move through the journal. Google may process this data according to its own privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by adjusting your browser's cookie and tracking settings.
This site displays banner advertising served by a third-party ad partner. Ad creatives and click-through destinations are supplied by that partner at the time the page loads; we do not control their content beyond the ad categories we've agreed to. Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technology to measure impressions and clicks.
Photographs are embedded from Wikimedia Commons; fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. Loading these resources may share basic technical request data (such as your IP address) with those providers, in the same way it would for any website using them.
You can clear cookies, browse in private mode, or use browser extensions to limit tracking at any time. Doing so won't affect your ability to read the journal — it may simply mean our analytics undercount your visit.
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
We may update this policy as the site or its tools change. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version.
